About Ryan Sanders

My intro blog

When I was a tri sport athlete, I ate a lot of food, I’m talking about 4000 calories a lot. I am no stranger to food, and I love to try new foods. I have traveled to so many different states, and around seven countries, mostly in Europe. With that, I have tasted a variety of foods.I have had Chinese food in the Philly Chinatown, Chicago style pizza from the famous Gino’s PizIMG_1773za, Dooner from Germany, Pizza in Naples and Rome, and Stingray from Belgium, along with so much more. I am in no way a critic or even relatively a professional, but I do feel confident that I can know when food is good or bad.

If there is anything I have learned from traveling, is that the best shops are the ones where the owner or workers do not speak English. That is to say that none of their food is Americanized and it is closer to their own culture. It may be hard to communicate, and you would need to learn some of their culture, but that just makes the experience better, in my opinion. Another thing that I learned to avoid is the restaurants that smell the best. Oftentimes, those restaurants are compensating for their bad food with great smells. The establishments that know their food is good often don’t need to flaunt it as much, and rely on the inevitable word of mouth. Another tip I learned is to ask people who live their what they like. You can use ratings online or, if you can, ask a resident of the city. In this age we live in, the internet is so helpful, but you can’t rely on just that to pick your restaurants to eat in. Sometimes, you have to learn from experience. You might get some bad meals here or there, but you might also get some very amazing meals that no one would have thought was good, even yourself!

As for my cooking experience, it is very limited. Until this summer, it was limited to items such as chips and salsa, sandwiches, chicken breasts, and the occasional meal that I was given a recipe for by my parents. But I have always wanted to learn how to cook. I don’t want to rely on anyone else for food, and I’ve heard is a great tool to attract a significant other. Everyone likes the person who can cook. But this summer I went on a special diet using an app on the App Store, eathismuch. I cooked some meals like, a chicken breast bagel with lettuce and tomato, a shrimp pasta, and my personal favorite, quinoa with ground beef and taco seasoning. The app taught me quite a lot of easy, healthy meals but I am looking for so much more. I want to be able to look at a rec906944_Souci_ce364a82-da2c-4de2-b0ac-71be4a3f0359ipe and identify what would be the best thing to make that meal better. A journey just starts with a step, and I hope for this class to be that first step.
